A Visit with General Ulysses S. Grant Sunday, October 26th from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The community is invited to visit with General Ulysses S. Grant on Sunday, October 26th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the WCTU Building on N. 2nd Street, Apollo, PA. Living historian and Gettysburg resident Ken Serfass will portray former Civil War general and U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. Serfass portrays Grant on walking tours, horseback rides, railroad excursions and regular events throughout the Northeast. In 2015, he was invited to join the Federal Generals Corps, a living-history organization hosting first-person impressions of many of the most well-known Union generals. Serfass, of Gettysburg, PA, is a former civil war “reenactor” but now a first-person impressionist with fifty years studying his childhood hero, US Grant. As a full-time professional living historian portraying Grant, his passion for the subject is evident in his presentation, and it is hard not to be affected by his enthusiasm and believe that you’ve met US Grant in living history. Refreshments will follow the program after a q&a with General Grant. Admission is $10. For more information: Call 724-478-2899 or Email apollopahistory@gmail.com

Date to be decided: Mark your calendar for a visit with the Long Brothers during the Civil War. This is a fascinating family story of love and tragedy presented by Matt Hankinson of the 139th Regiment. We had to cancel the November program but hope to reschedule in the spring at the Drake Log Cabin. More information will follow.

If you know of someone who has an interesting tale to tell, please let us know as we are always on the lookout for presenters!

When did Apollo stop the week long moonlanding celebration? I remember as a kid that was the highlight of the summer.

Hope I can make it home on August 1st for Wendy’s presentation on Miss Amy Snyder who was my 1st grade teacher. We started the year in the old elementary school before moving to the new school beside Owen’s Grove. My !st grade classroom in the old building is still standing. Looks like it has been converted to an apartment..

I hope you can make it also! The building is now privately owned; not sure if it’s a single home or apartments. Thanks for your interest.
