The A.M.E. church of Apollo, PA was organized the 24th day of March 1895 by Rev. L.N. Guinn. When Rev. Guinn came here in March ‘95 there was not a Zion member to be found in Apollo. The first visit that Rev. Guinn made to this town he received two members into the church and on his second visit receiving more and organized the church at the same time and now there are twelve members in our church. After the Lord has blest us with twelve members to our Church we felt we ought to have a church of our own in which to worship. We were without mean and see how God brought us out. Mr. G.W. ??? spoke to Rev. Guinn about the mill company having some vacant ground and Rev. Guinn called to see Mr. McMurtry, who highly favored us with a vacant lot and assisted us in building, and the people of this town gave liberally and we have built a cosy little church and have it over half paid. There were two Zion ministers here before Rev. Guinn, but they did not succeed in organizing the society or even receiving a single member. These two ministers were Rev. J. W. Powell and Rev. S.T. Whitten. We are thankful to God for sending Bro. Guinn to us and beside this his wife is an able Evangelist and she works with Brother Guinn shoulder to shoulder. Brother Guinn has accomplished a great work, here.

Editor’s note: We believe the church was located between Warren Avenue and the Kiski River between N. 8th and N. 9th Streets, possibly on Foundry Street in a row of houses and the church. We know from Dr. Henry that the church was still in existence in 1916, but don’t know when it closed. Anyone have any more information?!!
