More Chairs in Our Museum

These auditorium seats are from the balcony of the 1931 Apollo High School. Can you imagine the audience sitting there watching the Drama students perform plays or the band play concerts?
These auditorium theater seats were originally in the Apollo Municiple Building constructed in 1925. Again, we imagine the wonderful performances that were viewed from these seats!

The balcony of the auditorium was used for study hall period. I remember one year I had study hall there and my mother, Odessa Smith, was the teacher in charge. She, and probably all the teachers, sat on the edge of the balcony keeping things quiet of course. Just talked with Don and Nancy Stevens. Nancy remembers coming in on the bus at least a half hour before the town kids came to school and having to wait in the auditorium.

Mother taught the business classes with Carolyn Boyd. They taught the students so well that several of them got jobs with the government in Washington. They were noticed and recruits came to hire more of them and I remember they came to our house looking for mother and I talked to them for a while giving a good report of Apollo. Sadly one holiday several of the girls were driving home and had a wreck and one was killed. That ended the Washington jobs.

    Memories.

Thank you for those memories, Carol. I’m sure others will appreciate reading them also. The AAHS has often thought about having a small display in memory of the girls who were in the accident.
