Our AAHS December meeting was again held at the General Samuel M. Jackson Mansion on Terrace Avenue in Apollo. Thanks so much to Rob Jackson for letting us visit and to Bill Kerr for hosting us. As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words” so here are the photos from the evening taken by Bill Kerr.

Hi all,
My grandmother’s family was was raised in the old Jackson House. 7 Sisters and one brother. The Charles S. Ludwig Family (Charles lived from 1878-1933). The sisters and brother all moved out west to Arizona and their mother, Lillie (who lived from 1883 to 1969) stayed in the house until she passed – however, she got less able to handle upkeep and the house fell into disrepair as she aged in the home. After her death, her children sold the house without fixing it up, since they all lived out West.
In any event, lots of photos and things that I inherited from my grandmother, Virginia Ludwig Bryant. Picture of her (center black dress) and siblings attached (L to R: Sam; Wylda; Julia; Virginia; Helen; Martha and Kate). One sister, Francis Ludwig (1920-21) passed away at one year old in the house from Influenza which turned into Pneumonia.
Also, attached are some papers I found recently that I thought you’d find interesting. Old calling card for Col. Jackson from W. E. Lloyd. Found in the house at some point and passed along to me.
Best and I’ll forward things and good pictures of the home as I find them!
Shannon

Thanks for the great information, Shannon. We always enjoy hearing stories from Apollo’s past. If possible, could you send the attachments to our email apollopahistory@gmail.com? They don’t seem to appear with your message. Thanks so much and we appreciate any others that you find!
