According to our president, Denise Flickinger, “There was a clothing store called Rubins. Several others also. There was the Woodie and also one called the Warren, which may have been one and the same over time. Dixon’s was the bakery , but several others also existed. But in my time I only remember Dixon’s. That would be the 60s.”

Thomas and Elizabeth Reese (Rees) that came in about 1860. I see occupation as “keeping grocery store” in an 1880 census. Do you have any record. My great grandmother was Jennie Reese born in Apollo about 1876. Do you have any birth records or could lead me to here exact date of birth. Thank you so much! Trying to piece my family history together. Please contact me at smrollins@earthlink.net
Thank you – Maryann

Hi Maryann, I was told that there were so many independent grocery stores in Apollo, and no one really kept track of them. If I come across the name, I will certainly let you know. Thanks for your interest in the AAHS!

My Dad’s family (James & Domenica MacCagno) owned one of the independent grocery stores referenced by the Historical Society. It was located at/near 100 Kiski.

The only reference to Thomas Reese I was able to find was in Dr. TJ Henry’s book “1816-1916 History of Apollo” He was a trustee of the 1st Baptist Church.

I’m looking for where I can find information on the company AS Wolfe Photography that was located in Apollo. I recently came into photos and want to research them.

Sorry I’m just getting back to you, Rachel…I just missed your question. We do have some info at the museum about the bottling company. If you are on facebook, the site “I Just Want To Remember Apollo…” had some great info. The AAHS facebook site may also have some photos, but I’m no longer there. I’ll see what I can find.

Do you have any pictures showing D.A. Stevens Jewelry Store-before the town decided to make a shopping center in the middle of the town and then a picture of the Jewelry Store after the construction. My uncle owned the store.. I actually stayed every summer with them
